What Comes With A Security System?

Posted on February 27th, 2017 by Alert Protective

So you’re looking into getting a security system for your home. One thing you are going to want to know is what exactly is involved, and what all is going to be installed. Our expert installation team will come to your home and get your system all set up—but to give you an idea of exactly what that means, below are the common elements of a home security system.

Motion Detectors

We install motion detectors at different entry points around your home. These sensors are placed on either side of each entry point and use infrared energy to detect movement through these spaces. They may also be placed high on walls or on the ceiling depending on the part of the house. The hardware is minimal and they often go unnoticed.

Control Panel

Pretty much all home security systems have some sort of control panel associated with them. Generally, we will install these control panels somewhere out of sight and out of mind. This is the central hub for the security system. It is what controls the entire system including the alarm.

Keypads

Keypads are the interactive components of the security system that allow you to manually activate and deactivate the alarm. They are usually placed near the main entry point—like the front door. There can be multiple keypads if there are multiple points of frequent entry.

Cameras

Security cameras can be installed to work with your alarm system. Surveillance cameras can give you the peace-of-mind that comes with being able to see your home while you’re away, and also allow you to look back in case there was an incidence of attempted intrusion. Cameras are often placed both indoors and outdoors.

Smoke Detector/Fire Alarm

Most security systems include smoke detectors so that your home is not only safe from intruders, but also from fire. Our smoke detectors can be monitored remotely so that you can rest assured that your house is safe while you’re away.

Sirens

The actual alarm component of the security system, sirens can involve things like horns, bells, strobe lights, and speakers. When the security system is triggered, it will sound the siren, alerting everyone in the area of an intruder.
